YOGA MY WAY is an eight minute 360 degree immersive dance film – A time capsule “sculpture” created by adapting a stage work of local BC choreographer and performer Tara Cheyenne Friedenberg into a short site specific piece set in local architecture/ geography designed to be shot and viewed in 360 media.

YOGA MY WAY is an eight minute 360 degree immersive comedic dance film/time capsule “sculpture” created by adapting a critically acclaimed stage work into a short site specific piece set in a gorgeous urban Vancouver Canada park (think skyscrapers and an ocean view)

We find ourselves in a yoga class with an instructor (created and played by Dance-theatre guru Tara Cheyenne Friedenberg with her signature humour and pathos) who can’t seem to help herself, let alone her students. Touching on community, relationships, motherhood, body image, self-care, self-worth, self-centeredness and cultural appropriation, she takes us on a journey across the park, through her memory of a walk in the Mexican jungle, into a strange landscape of longing and face to face with the unanswerable questions that contort our collective perceptions.

This fearless, amorphous and heady mix of comedy, dance, and spiritual searching is an inverse sort of sculpture positioning the audience in the middle of the piece free to looking around from within. Literally and figuratively. The immersive 360 film also acts as a time-capsule like record of the work itself to be experienced by future generations.

Dance-Theatre genius Tara Cheyenne Friedenberg brings her unique, inquisitive eye for horror and hilarity to the big questions of spirituality and existence.
Friedenberg, nothing short of brilliant, continues to seek and to find transcendence in performance.
